THE CARING CULTURE LAB
is rooted in the belief that addressing gender inequality requires a structural approach to the discriminatory working conditions and societal narratives surrounding creative production and care work. Serving as a competence center for advancing gender justice in the arts in Germany and beyond, the CARING CULTURE LAB employs awareness-raising, community-building, knowledge-transfer, skill-training, and certifications.
COMMUNITY
Functioning as a vital link between artists, curators with caregiving responsibilities, and art institutions, the CARING CULTURE LAB actively collects and shares resources. It fosters a digital community to facilitate exchange and stay attuned to the needs of caregiving artists and other professionals in the art sector. The CARING CULTURE LAB is also working towards the launch of an empowering mentoring program for artists with caregiving responsibilities.

Consulting
The lab consolidates the extensive expertise of cultural practitioners working nationwide in self-organization to make the arts more accessible to parents and caregivers. This includes initiatives such as kind+kunst Berlin, k&k München, Mehr Mütter für die Kunst Hamburg, fair share für Künstlerinnen, Bühnenmütter e.V. Mothers*, Warriors, and Poets. Representatives from these networks serve as advisors to art institutions (museums, foundations, residencies, and art houses), providing them with awareness, know-how, tailored concepts, measurements, and guidance for the implementation of care-sensitive measures.
Certificate
Recognizing the importance of successful implementation of care-sensitive measures, the CARING CULTURE LAB awards the CARING CULTURE Certificate to art institutions. This not only encourages other institutions to adopt similar practices but also fosters transparency for artists, curators, funders, and fellow organizations.
